Women's Cycling Retreat presented by Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation

I will be holding a women's only cycling retreat Wednesday afternoon January 8th through Sunday morning January 12th. Over my career I have been helped by many individuals who's support enabled me to reach my goals. This in turn has made me passionate about helping others on their journey and my dream to host a women's retreat is becoming a reality. Part of my vision included the chance to make a retreat accessible. I know very well how busy a woman's life is, whether it be chasing a passion, juggling motherhood and a career, studying for a future career or breaking into an underrepresented field to name a few, and it is very important to me that the financial barrier be as low as possible. Here enters Texas Park and Wildlife Foundation and because of their sponsorship, I am able to offer the retreat for only $375. This includes 4 nights, all meals, 6 clinics by incredibly accomplished women, rides everyday, and a chance to immerse yourself in nature. This is an amazing opportunity to learn from and grow with other women and we would be honored to have you attend. Please contact me directly via the site or find me on instagram at emilyjoynewsom. Read on for more details!

Joining me will be my co-host Jenny Fletcher a multi talented athlete who excels in triathlons and having recently ventured into the gravel world, has found herself obsessed. Jenny became a professional triathlete in 2012, is a two time Half Ironman Champion and had multiple top 10 finishes in the discipline. Perhaps more inspiring than her many accolades is Jenny's desire to help other women succeed in their athletic endeavors.

The retreat is presented and sponsored by Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, an organization which focuses on caring for and preserving the wild things and wild places of Texas. With 88 state parks covering the wonderfully diverse landscape of Texas, TPWF provides invaluable resources, research and effort to keep Texas wild and beautiful. Thanks to them, Texans and those visiting can enjoy 191,000 miles of rivers and streams, 4 million acres of coastal water, 649 bird species, and so much more.

The women's retreat will be held at the Cleburne State Park just 40 minutes south of Fort Worth. This serene park surrounds the clear waters of Cedar Lake and is an idyllic oasis for those seeking a peaceful break from day to day life. The retreat is ideal for any woman who loves riding their bike and wants to learn more while being surrounded by like minded women and encouraged by passionate leaders. This is meant to be an accessible camp, available to any woman who wishes to learn more and we welcome all levels and abilities. The itinerary includes daily clinics hosted by professionals in their respective fields, including nutrition, sports psychology, yoga and massage as well as an in depth tire clinic explaining ideal setups and addressing the ever dreaded flat. Our speakers and presenters include Tracy Carrington, PhD, of Mind Game Performance, Sandra Vanatko, certified Yoga Therapist, Eve Pearson MBA, RDN, LD of Nutriworks, and Toni Riley, LMT of Olive Grove Therapy. Along with these incredible women, Jenny and I will be presenting a clinic on tire choices and flat fixing. Jenny and I will also set up a few informal q and a sessions for an opportunity to ask us anything!

We will be riding every day, weather permitting, with multiple route options, each always led by myself and Jenny, ranging from 15 to ~35 miles. An ideal set up would be a road bike with tough tires or a hybrid or gravel bike. The event will be held at the Group Hall and Barracks in the State Park. The sleeping arrangement is barrack style, but we will arrange it so every lady has their privacy. Each participant is asked to bring their own twin sized linens, blanket and a pillow as well as a towel and facecloth. The camp is limited to 22 participants and the first 12 to signup will be scheduled for a free massage with Toni Riley. All food will be provided and will emphasize a healthy, nourishing and satisfying diet. I am passionate about baking and cooking and will be preparing the majority of the food myself. Expect plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, home baked sourdough bread made with my very own starter, and deliciously satisfying yet healthy meals.

Please contact me directly through this site, or on instagram at emilyjoynewsom and I hope to meet you at Cleburne State Park!
